Can meditation help with grief?

Answered 2026-10-13 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher

Meditation won't shrink your grief, but it gives grief room. Most of the day you are holding it off, staying busy, staying polite. On the cushion you can stop holding. Don't sit to feel better or to feel less. Let the ache be where it lives, in the chest, in the throat. Stay beside it the way you would sit with a crying friend, not fixing, just there. Tonight, sit ten minutes with one hand where it hurts, and let it hurt.
