Does it count if I'm just sitting there thinking the whole time?

Answered 2026-11-09 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher

It counts the moment you notice you were thinking. Sitting is not a test you pass by having a blank mind. Thoughts will come all session, the way traffic keeps moving past your window. Practice is not stopping the traffic; it is waking up to it, again and again. Each time you catch yourself planning dinner or replaying a meeting, that catching is the sitting. Next time you sit, whenever you notice a thought, quietly say "thinking," and return to your breath.
