How do I know if my meditation is working?
You want a measurement, something to hold up against last month so you can say, yes, better. But look at who is asking. The one who wants proof is the same restless mind you sat with. Sitting is not a machine that produces calm the way a kettle produces steam. Some days the mind settles, some days it storms, and both are the weather of that morning. If you must look for a sign, don't look on the cushion. Look at the moment someone cuts in front of you, or the moment you're kept waiting. Do you notice, a little sooner, what rises in you? That noticing is the whole thing, and it doesn't keep score. So next time you sit, drop the question. When you catch yourself grading the session, come back to the breath, and leave the grade blank.
This was one stranger’s question. In the app, you sit, say what is actually going on, and the teacher answers you, in a voice, privately. The first dokusan is free.
