How do I meditate with chronic pain?

Answered 2026-10-30 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher

The pain is not blocking your sitting. It is your sitting. Much of the suffering is the bracing: the jaw set, the breath held, the story that this must end before practice can begin. Drop the story. Sit in whatever posture your body allows: a chair, a bed, lying flat. Then get curious. Pain is never one solid thing; it pulses, burns, shifts, pauses. Next time you sit, find its edge and breathe right there, three breaths, without asking it to leave.
