How long should I sit each day as a beginner?
Shorter than you think, and every day. Ten minutes is enough. Fifteen if ten feels easy. The trouble with beginners is not that they sit too little; it is that they sit a heroic hour on Sunday and nothing on Monday. What matters is not the length but the returning. A small sitting you actually keep will teach you more than a long one you dread. And notice the question itself. You want a number so you can know whether you are doing it right. There is no right amount waiting to be earned. There is only this breath, then this one. When the time grows on its own, let it grow. Don't push it. Tomorrow, choose one fixed time, set a timer for ten minutes, and when it rings, stand up, even if it was going well.
This was one stranger’s question. In the app, you sit, say what is actually going on, and the teacher answers you, in a voice, privately. The first dokusan is free.
