Is it okay to meditate for only ten minutes a day, or is that pointless?

Answered 2026-10-02 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher

Ten minutes is not a small amount of sitting. It is ten minutes. The worry that it is pointless comes from the part of you that is always measuring, always asking whether this is enough, whether you are getting somewhere. That part will not be quieted by sitting an hour instead. Sitting is not a deposit you make toward some later reward. When you sit, you are simply sitting, and those ten minutes are complete in themselves. What matters is that you actually arrive for them, not half there, rehearsing the rest of your day. Ten honest minutes are worth more than an hour of waiting for the bell. So tomorrow, set the timer, sit down, and when the thought comes that this is too little, notice it, let it pass, and keep sitting.
