Is it selfish to spend time meditating when there's so much to do?
You are asking as if sitting were time taken away from the work. The one who rushes through the to-do list is the same one who sits. If that one is scattered, everything they touch gets scattered too. The emails, the dishes, the people you love, all receive your distraction. Sitting is not escape from the work. It is where you find out who is doing the work. And notice the word selfish. It assumes there is a solid self to serve. Sit long enough and that self gets thin, and what remains is attention, which belongs to everyone. So do not sit to get away from what needs doing. Sit so that what needs doing meets someone who is actually here. Next sitting, when the list starts reciting, let it recite. Then return to one breath.
This was one stranger’s question. In the app, you sit, say what is actually going on, and the teacher answers you, in a voice, privately. The first dokusan is free.
