My foot goes numb every time I sit. Is that okay?

Answered 2026-11-07 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher

Numbness is not depth. It is a squeezed nerve. Plenty of people sit for years believing that enduring the dead foot proves something. It proves only that you stayed still. Zen is not an endurance contest. Raise your cushion higher, try a bench or a chair, loosen the cross of your legs. If you must move, move slowly and fully, then return to the breath. Next time you sit, catch the first tingle and adjust before it becomes a fight.
