What does "just sitting" actually mean?
Answered 2026-10-07 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher
Just sitting means the sitting isn't for anything. No breath to fix, no calm to reach, no insight to collect. The body sits, sounds arrive, thoughts rise and fall, and you add nothing. When you catch yourself trying to get somewhere, that trying is only another thought; let it pass too. Next time you sit, drop the question "is this working?" Sit as though sitting were already the whole point, because it is.
This was one stranger’s question. In the app, you sit, say what is actually going on, and the teacher answers you, in a voice, privately. The first dokusan is free.
