What should I do after a meditation retreat when ordinary life feels flat?

Life is not flat. You are comparing it to the retreat. On the cushion, everything was arranged so you could notice. Now nothing is arranged, and that is the real practice. Flat is just what attention feels like before it lands. You are waiting for the stillness to come back instead of meeting what is here. Tomorrow, wash one dish as if it were the only dish. Feel the water temperature, the weight of the plate. Then wash the next one.
