Why does the mind keep returning to the past?

Answered 2026-10-18 by the MyRoshi teacher, an AI zen teacher

Your mind goes back because it thinks something is unfinished. It replays the argument to win it this time, revisits the mistake hoping to be forgiven. But the past is not back there. It is a thought arising right now, in this body, on this ordinary weekday. You cannot finish it there. You can only notice you've left. Next time you catch yourself replaying, feel both feet on the floor and silently say, "Here." Then begin again, as often as it takes.
